"I only accept the cases that intrigue me"
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Role: Other
Class/Level: Cold Case Detective/2nd Class Apprentice
Background:
L is quite secretive, and rarely represents himself to the world in person; therefore, no one knows his background. L was a homeless child who was found and raised by the founder of an orphanage. L's genius showed at an early age as he outsmarted his teachers and other adult figures in his life. Due to this he was never schooled and had to teach himself. L became a detective at an early age eventually gaining a reputation for himself.
Details:
L is very intelligent, though his disheveled and languid appearance masks his great powers of deduction and many question his abilities upon viewing him. L is extremely meticulous and analytical. He eats sweets exclusively, due to the fact that sugar keeps the brain active. L often uses dramatic strategies to confuse his opponents and force their hand. He is willing to take drastic measures in order to solve a case. He does not solve cases for justice, he solves them simply because it is his hobby; therefore, he only takes on cases that pique his interest.

L'rhenn Aubuchon
(Retired)
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Role: Defender
Class/Level: Holy Vindicator (Paladin)/6
Description:
L'rhenn Aubuchon is from St. Mare A'belle, a city in Chauneian that has high regard for honor and discipline. He is no stranger to adventuring, though he doesn't ever seek adventure for wealth or glory. Instead, he looks at it as a chance to provide protection to those who need it and to spread the grace of his goddess Andoletta through his actions. This view leads L'rhenn to spend most of his time offering his services to the innocents and abandoned. He is often found helping children in orphanages, the injured and dying in infirmaries, and the sick and poor who journey to monasteries.
L'rhenn has a tattoo on the back of his left hand of an old woman wrapped in a shawl. Her face is hidden by the visage of a crow with wings spread. This same image is painted onto L'rhenn's shield. While fulfilling his daily tasks, L'rhenn wears simple clothes of earth tones. When following the martial path of his paladin ways, he wears his armor of full plate, carries his shield with him, holds his trident as a walking staff of sorts, and has his sword at his left hip. A dark brown cape hangs off of his shoulders, and a green tunic rests over his armor.
He keeps his black hair swept back from his face. His vibrant blue eyes reflect strong kindness and contrast with his darker, olive skin. He stands tall at six feet and four inches, his large frame nearing 200 pounds. His hands, though very big and not exceedingly dexterous, move and work with surprisingly gentle care when he tends to the sick and injured.

Background:
L’rhenn Aubuchon is from St. Mare A’belle, a city in Chauneian that has high regard for honor and discipline. He is no stranger to adventuring, though wealth and glory are never on his mind. Rather, he looks at adventuring as a chance to provide protection to those who need it and to spread the grace of his goddess Andoletta through his actions. This view leads L’rhenn to spend most of his time offering services to the innocents and abandoned. He is often found helping children in orphanages, the injured and dying in infirmaries, and the sick and poor who journey to monasteries. He rarely has any excess wealth in his possession as he frequently donates it to any place he currently finds himself working at. Most of his few possessions come from the church itself or from the donations of others.
L’rhenn’s father Adrien is a politician and his mother Sophie was a wealthy landholder and heiress to a textiles import/export trade. The two married about a year before L’rhenn was born, and the boy was the eldest of four children. The next eldest child—a year younger than L’rhenn—was a girl by the name of Cyrielle. The third child was another boy, named Étienne, and he was born four years after L’rhenn. Gabrielle, the second girl and last child, was born eleven years after L’rhenn, but she died a month after birth. Sophie seemed to be infertile afterward.
Before Adrien was married, he was a knight. He entered a military career when he was 17 because, even though he was nobility, his household was not exceedingly wealthy and he was the third-born son. His inheritance would amount to little beyond a title. Instead, he sought rank elsewhere, and earned himself a decent enough holding upon becoming a knighted lord. His marriage to Sophie was mostly to further his wealth and social standing, though he was quite the experienced charmer and Sophie as well as her family believed his postured sincerity. Sophie was barely 19 when she married while Adrien was 28. Sophie’s family was happy to have their daughter marry into a title, and Adrien was happy to wed into wealth.
Adrien did not truly care for Sophie, and although he was kind to her face and while under the public eye, he philandered as much and as often as he pleased. It was not uncommon for Adrien to have a steady mistress as well as random flings with other women. Sophie did not expect anything out of the ordinary at first, but within a couple years of marriage she began to have her doubts about her husband’s fidelity. When Adrien settled out of the military to become a politician, signs became ever clearer. Since Adrien wasn’t often out of the city for weeks at a time as he was when he was in the military, his frequent excuses to leave the home raised suspicion. More than once he would return smelling of someone else’s perfume. However, he always denied any wrongdoing, always keeping the public face of the charmer and gentleman.
L’rhenn witnessed his parents’ arguments, but stayed clear of them. When his father would leave Sophie crying on her own, only then would L’rhenn come forward to offer what comfort a child could to his mother. Sophie became depressed, and her depressive episodes would last months at a time. Adrien grew more distant, unable to bring himself to care. He started to spend most of his time drunk while at home. His distance turned to distaste, and he grew emotionally abusive behind closed doors. When Gabrielle was born sick, Sophie was too weak to provide proper care for her daughter. It was no surprise that the infant could not recover. Sophie was distraught, but Adrien grew spiteful and blamed his wife for the girl’s death. Sophie, with nowhere else to go, spent the next year at her parents’ estate, though it was more her mother’s doing than her own. Sophie’s parents had no idea that Adrien had turned into such a fiend, however. Sophie’s mother spent a lot of time at the Aubuchon household, and she took care of the children that year (along with the help of their live-in servants).
Sophie returned only marginally better off than when she left. She had more or less recovered from the blow of losing her infant child, but her general depression was not belayed. L’rhenn and the other children had only been able to see her on the weekends, so they were overjoyed that their mother had returned, and that helped raise Sophie’s spirits for a while. Adrien, however, was furious that he had lost his emotional punching bag for the year, since he had to tow a very tight line around Sophie’s parents. Within a month, Adrien started beating Sophie.
L’rhenn became enraged, but rather than explode like the tyrant his father was, he stood defiantly in front of his mother whenever Adrien would start to hit her. Adrien lost all pretense of concern and resorted to beating L’rhenn out of the way before turning his attention back to Sophie. L’rhenn, just over 12 years old, would not be so easily scared away. Even after being knocked out of the way from his father, L’rhenn would stand back up defiant as ever, becoming more and more the protector. At one point Étienne tried to emulate his brother, but when their father turned a hard fist toward him, Étienne grew sullen and quiet. Over time, that sullenness turned to bitterness as he quietly watched his home fall apart. Cyrielle spent most of her time at her maternal aunt’s home under the pretense of wanting to learn her mother’s family trade. The worse things at home got, the less Cyrielle was around.
Sophie obviously had no desire to touch or even look at her husband, but Adrien would still on occasion have his way with her just to prove he still could. Sophie turned inward again and resorted to silently enduring her husband’s abuses. During this time, Sophie contracted some disease from Adrien that he had acquired from one of his many flings. She had no idea, however, because symptoms did not show until a half a year later. Adrien had already noticed symptoms in himself however, and he sought out a very discreet—and very expensive—magical solution. When they both realized Sophie had the disease, Adrien would still not admit to his own misgivings and instead blamed Sophie, publically saying that she had been philandering and that she was being punished by the gods for the crimes against her husband and family.
L’rhenn frequently comforted and talked with his mother in her last years. As her delirium grew from the disease, she often had no means to even get out of bed, and the only time she showed joy was when L’rhenn stayed with her. Adrien would never attempt to see her in their home, and he restricted her to guest quarters. L’rhenn would occasionally hear half-muttered ramblings regarding Adrien from Sophie, during which she would enumerate the various horrible things Adrien had done to her throughout their lives. She frequently cried, and to L’rhenn it seemed as if she blamed herself. She admitted guilt and regret over not providing a good home to her children, as if it were somehow her fault.
Sophie died a few years later when L’rhenn was 16. Étienne, then 12, had become quite the trouble maker and was constantly infuriating the city guards with his destructive behavior. Eventually, Étienne would join the military but within a year—while stationed far away from home—he went AWOL and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
L’rhenn could barely stand to look at his father, and when Adrien merely responded with, “Now we are finally free of that woman’s curse,†in regards to his wife’s death, L’rhenn gathered together some of his mother’s jewelry and left. Adrien tried to stop him but L’rhenn had no fear of the man. L’rhenn simply said, “I would rather be dead than spend another day in this house.†He pushed his father aside, walked out, and never returned.
L’rhenn sold most of his mother’s jewelry. He bought a simple, battered sword, a bit of gear for the road, and enough food to last him for a week. He stopped by his aunt’s house and gave the bulk of the money quietly to Cyrielle. “I’ll be around if you ever need me,†L’rhenn told her. “How will you know,†was her only response. “I just will,†he said, and then he left. There was one piece of Sophie’s jewelry that he had not sold. It was a small pendant representing the goddess Andoletta. L’rhenn kept it because it reminded him of his mother. Sophie had often said in her delirium that L’rhenn must have been given to her by Andoletta herself, because he was too good to be Adrien’s child. L’rhenn strung it around a cheap but sturdy necklace, put it around his neck, and never took it off.
L’rhenn had no idea where he was going or where he would end up. He had no plans, and so he simply travelled along the roads away from St. Mare A’belle for a week and a half until one night he was jumped by a small band of thieves. In their frustration over his utter lack of any goods, they beat him up and broke his sword. L’rhenn fell unconscious on the side of the road. L’rhenn had a hazy dream of being flown by a crow to an old stone building four days’ journey from where he fell. After the crow put L’rhenn down, it came to rest at his side and changed into a shining sword with an inscription in the blade: “Quem patronum rogaturus, cum vix Justus sit securus? Qui salvandos savas gratis, fons pietatis?†Who shall intercede for me when the just ones need mercy? Who freely saves those worthy ones, source of mercy?
The next morning when he awoke, he was in a monastery. A monk there introduced himself as Fernand and said that a lone traveler carried him in just before the sun rose. The traveler was robed simply and Fernand said he could make out no details about the traveler except for that the hands reminded him of an old woman’s. “That could not have been the case, though,†explained the monk. “An old woman could not have carried you here in her arms.â€
“Where am I?†L’rhenn could only manage a few words. “You are at St. Maeva’s Abbey. It’s just over two weeks from St. Mare A’belle by the back roads. Were you not journeying here?†The reality of the situation fell upon L’rhenn. He knew he was nowhere near St. Maeva’s Abbey when he was jumped by the bandits.
“Andoletta,†L’rhenn whispered through tears. After regaining his strength, the young man found his way back to St. Mare A’belle where he entered the service of the church of Andoletta, which has been his guiding light ever since.
L’rhenn’s father Adrien is a politician and his mother Sophie was a wealthy landholder and heiress to a textiles import/export trade. Profession: Cook
Personality: The jungle tribes of inner Shigalla vary linguistically and culturally. Nevertheless, the Tsala tribe is a well-known tribe of Lizard-folk druids. La’ans (Lance in common) never quite lived up to the normal expectations of the tribe. He was always big for his age, tough, and strong, but a bit clumsy. To call him book-smart is…not remotely accurate. Nevertheless, he intends well towards others, and generally tries to obey the law of the land near him, though he perceives protecting the natural world to be above any national laws. He enjoys battle, and fights with a savagery one might associate with a barbarian more than a paladin. Lance’s greatest love, though he doesn’t get to show it much while adventuring, is cooking the ingredients provided by nature to produce delicious dishes and to share them with friends.
Family: Alta’as (mother), La’alsa (father), Alta’arna (sister same brood), Alta’ansa (sister same brood, dead), Alta’sala (favorite younger sister, druid prodigy seemingly destined to ruin the tribe), La’anar (brother same brood), many other siblings from other broods
Favored weapon: Glaive, Sling, Tooth, and Claws
Favored fighting style: Lance’s favorite weapon is his large glaive, which he uses to hack through enemies while outreaching them. He also happily will sling stones at a distance, and bite or slaw enemies too close for comfort. In spite of his savagery, Lance is a team fighter, and will do his best to protect those in need of his help.
Lance hatched in a small clutch of six lizard-folk with three sisters and two brothers in 713, deep in the Shigallan Jungle. Four of them survived to their teen years, a high rate for lizard clutches, perhaps due to good parenting from his druid mother and father. Lance and his remaining siblings became quite close, even as the others advanced through the druidic world and Lance took his own path. Lance realized that he wouldn’t cut it as a druid in his early teen years and began to train in his second love (after the natural world): cooking. The outer Shigallan raids also began to get closer to his home in his teenage years, and he gained experience battling the invaders with his tribe, developing a reputation as a honorable, yet savage fighter. After one of these battles, he saw the burned, clearcut jungle, slaughtered animals, and his sister lying dead. There, on the battlefield, he took an oath to protect nature and the innocent from aggressors. At 20 years old, Lance and his siblings were sent out into the world to explore, as is traditional in their tribe. They snuck out past the outer Shigallan borders, moving at night, then split up to go their own ways. Lance decided to seek out information about new cuisines and to protect the innocent while journeying on his own.
